A versatilist and somewhat of a polymath, Carla comes from a background in performing arts and interactive media, for publishing, blue chips, agencies and start-ups, Carla went through her own transformation moving into online learning and learning with technologies, working for an International Educational Group of publishers. Captivated by the complexities of education landscapes and learning as well as the potential for online, interactive education and innovation in learning across multiple contexts, she oversaw transformation to blended learning programmes for publishers, set up innovation divisions and became Global Digital Director Education at Cambridge University Press.
Having started to mentor start-ups in the UK and Africa, Carla took some time out to give something back. She was head-hunted by the Institute of Education (UCL), the number 1 Education Research Institution to take on the strategic role of Director of Futures. Carla instigated the EDUCATE programme with Prof Rose Luckin, designing the programme, recruiting and mentoring of over 100 EdTech start-ups in London, handing over the helm and setting up the Tmrw Institute, a Thought Leader and catalyst organisation in the Global EdTech landscape bringing together stakeholders from ministers to start-ups.
